well i'm just telling you guys what i here and see on the news and with the price of gas now gas stations are reporting record numbers of drive off's. so someone that can not afford gas might just resort to stealing it from someone else. i,m just saying that i would rather be out 4 gallons than 10, 20 or more. you know what i mean?

Sounds logical... but that is exactly what's happening here in the Bay Area.

The most vulnerable are vehicles left outside overnight and not parked inside a garage.

Last week, someone in broad daylight stole two almost new tires off a colleague's Honda parked in the hospital parking lot... Several people saw the woman changing the tire and one guy offered to help her...

No one knew she was a thief boldly steeling in broad daylight

So much for trusting your fellow man or in this case your fellow woman...

$94.17 filled me up last night. I always fill up and calculate gas mileage. I'm just around 20mpg, love having a manual helps quite a bit in saving gas.

Okay...another point about having gas in the tank.

I have owned several cars. Why? Because they always have expensive mechanical malfunctions. Blown motors, bad transmissions...

Cars and me do NOT get along well. But one thing I've noticed is that they ALWAYS seem to finally give up the ghost not long after I had FILLED the tank. It's bad enough that the car is trashed...it's doubly bad that all that gas just got WASTED.

I've been waiting until the tank is half empty, then letting it fill until it stops automatically. I thought maybe if I filled up twice as often, it might smooth out the cost increases. I haven't done the math to see if I've saved anything, it's just been kind of a gut feeling thing.

LOL! Well I guess it wasn't funny to some people, but it was a humorous story, just the same. Who knows how many tires this lady might have stolen?

Unless you're going drag racing, I wouldn't concern myself too much regarding the five pounds per gallon that gasoline weighs. Most of your friends probably weigh more than 20 gallons.
Maintaining tire pressure and coasting when possible will garner you more additional MPGs than running with 1/4 tank.
Most fuel pumps are in the tank, and they depend on the fuel to keep them cool. Regularly running on fumes could have a negative effect on fuel pump life.
