i've bought motorcycle tires on line but the motorcycle shops don't like it and some won't mount them or charge an outragouse price to mount them, I'm not sure about auto tires. Sorry, i'm not much help. i have heard prices on tires are going to skyrocket in July so you might want to get them soon.
Treadepot.com most times its free shipping too. I started buying from them because I wanted to put the same tires on my wifes car that came on it new and couldn't find them locally. I order them and they are delivered in three days. I think they have three US locations.
Have any of you bought tires online? If so from what website/store?
Good question, CTR!
There are a number of Online Tire Stores, however, unless you have the equipment and knowledge to mount them yourself or a know of a shop offering that service at a reasonable price, the savings (if any) and hassle may not be worth it.
Shop online and determine your best price including the complete mounting fees which can be hefty . . . then check around the local shops like Discount Tire, Firestone, Costco and Sams Club for their best price. You may be surprised plus places like Discount Tire and Firestone will usually MATCH the other guys.
I have purchased from several online outlets but feel I have had the best service from Tirerack. As several have noted, many local outlets will claim to match the online price but you may have to wade through sales of add on charges and a push to steer you to a different tire.
My last set I bought from Tirerack and got what I wanted at the price I wanted complete with manufacturers rebate form. I used one of their recommended installers that gave me great service and charged $24 per tire for mounting, balancing, and new stems.
I think tirerack is a safe bet for you to shop the tires and see what best fits your needs. I have heard people have lots of luck with them. I personally have used them to research and then went local to get the tires at the same price plus a small fee for mounting/balancing.
I would be hesitant of any deep discounts out there. I have read many articles about tires being "brand new" but lin reality they are like seven years old. They offer these "brand new tires" at a great deal but there have been issues with the rubber degrading and having a much shorter life than they are supposed to. I cannot remember where but on the tire is a series of numbers that tell you the week and year they were manufactured. While this is tough to verify through online purchase until you get the tire, with stores offering deals that seem so great they can't be true, a little checking can verify this information. Just my two cents.
Tires.com is Discount Tire's web site. Price tires there then take price to Discount's local store. They have always matched it for me.
