Hummers will be seen in the future as a silly, "turn of the century" relic. Good riddance! Nice to hear at least GM is figuring out they need to build decent small cars if they want to be around much longer.
well, if GM didn't underestimate foreign car companies in the 70s-80s by building junk and figuring we would always buy it, then this wouldn't be the case at all. i feel for the people that are losing their jobs.
they have been making cars for over 100 years, i wonder when they will start doing it right.
A case of another US Large Corporation with their long term Head In The Sand.
We have a Chevy car dealer in my area that's owner used to get on TV and advertise.
His famous saying was,
I Can't Eat These Things !!! and I'll Stand on my Head for U !!!
Boy was he ahead of his Time.....
This has been a typical case of DENIAL motivated by Profit and Greed.
This time their "Timming Sucks".
It reminds me of someone trying to get every last belonging out of their burning house.
This time they got burned.
Actually, I say all this with some sadness as I have been a loyal GM customer since 1963 when I bought my first new vehicle...a Chevy 1/2 ton Pick up. My prize purchase was a new 56 chevy Bel Air 2 dr. Hardtop Turquoise and White.
Toyota was nothing but a piece of crap back in those days. I test drove one in the late 60's and still remember my thoughts.

Sort of smells like 1977 again when GM started downsizing all of their models. Except I don't know of any plants that closed as a result of the 1974/1979 gas crisis.
They are SELLING the Hummer line not getting totally rid of it. BIG difference.
GM is not closing their Arlington, Texas plant that makes mostly Tahoe's, Suburbans and pickups.
MANY MANY companies are selling off parts of their business and/or closing plants. Especially older plants that would take huge amounts of $$$$$ to bring up to speed be it for environmental guidelines or updating their equipment. They are just moving the manufacturing process to another
plant(s) or area in the country. We have been dealing w/ companines doing that for years. No big deal.

GM didn't have the rest of the world "eating their lunch" back then. The US manufactures got set up by the agreements they made with the labor unions.
They Handicapped themselves.
It was good for the workers while it lasted
Now it's comming home to roost.
Were not shipping most of these jobs Offshore...Were shipping them Onshore to the Foreign Manufactures building in the US.
The workers just won't have the same pay and benefits.

And who is buying the Hummer line? I can't see too many companies jumping at the prospect of buying a line of behemoth gas guzzling vanity vehicles at a time when gas is going through the roof.
