i think the old Fit was around 36mpg. the article made in sound like mileage wouldnt change too much since it didnt gain much weight and they sloped the windshild a bit more
I am more into the Japanese hatchbacks. I love my Ford truck but I don't think I would buy a regular Ford.
Lindsey have you considered a Honda Civic. I have a 2006 with 1.8 engine. I have over 45,000 miles and not a single problem. It is by far the best car I have ever owned. Great fit and finish. Love it.

I used to have a Civic and I LOVED it but I really like the convenience of the hatchback on the Fit. I'm not used to driving a sedan anymore and I think the more sporty attitude of the Fit or the Versa would suit me better.
I love your draw to hatchbacks. I am also a hatchback lover myself. You can store much larger items inside and they just seem roomier, although that may or may not be the case with each model.
Hatchbacks are very convenient, especially for big boxes and such. The only bad thing is eventually you start hearing the little rattles and squeaks coming from "back there somewhere" and you can never figure out where it's coming from. LOL
If you are thinking about trading in the Expedition, you'll want to bring that up last in your dealings, not first. I'm thinking particularly a Honda or Toyota dealer won't want it much.
It may actually be to your advantage to keep it, assuming you have room to park it, and just drive it less. Always good to have a spare car (truck) available.
But prices will never go down as long as people keep driving big gas guzzlers like the Expedition. Supply and demand. America's thirst for oil to power their oversized gas guzzling behemoths is part of the reason we're in this mess with high gas prices.
Actually this is not the case at all. Oil speculation on futures as well as lack of refinery space are the culprits with OPEC a distant 3rd.
Blame SUV's all you want it's not supply and demand at all otherwise our drop in consumption would have resulted in lower prices already. There's also no justification for current barrel prices other than specutlation.

Thats what I was thinking, if they won't give me anything near what they should then I won't ask for a trade, I will just put a sign on it and try to sell it myself. I would rather not have to hold on to it. There isn't room in my garage for both and I don't like leaving a car outside.
As far as a hatchback is concerned, I am hoping the back row of seats will fold down, making a bigger space if I need room for something, that will be helpful.
I have several pets, at the moment, 5 cats and one dog. When I take them to them to the vet, I normally take more then one and in a cage. SO the extra room would be helpful.

Versas seats fold down in the rear. You probably knew that already.
