Can't compare the two since they don't compete in the same SUV market segment. They have a base price differential of almost $14,000.

MSRP

Forester - $19,995
RDX - $33,695

Well, we purchased the Mitsubishi,Outlander, have had it for over a month now and are thrilled with our new car. Love the visibility, how it hugs the road, the turning radius, all the bells and whistles especially the NAV and the stereo system rocks. It was recently rated in the top three for safety and OMG soooooo many cupholders. Just found another one today. Two other storage compartments in the dash besides the glovebox. And the smartkey...thought it was stupid at first but it is really convenient not having to get out the keys to open the door or start the engine. Someone needs to invent this system for unlocking the house. So far we're getting 22 mpg around town and 27 hwy. I have only seen 4 on the road since we bought our. Must be a well kept secret.

They do, which is why we decided against it. Nice car initially though. In a few years we'll see if they smoke and chatter like every other old Mitsu out there.

My choice for something economical would be RAV4. If you can go a wee bit smaller, Toyota Matrix or Pontiac Vibe (same cars). 26/32 mpg for those two. A couple more if you opt for the manual trans.
