Our wonderful elected officials are looking out for us again. They're making noise about bringing back the national 55MPH limit again.

Would You Drive 55? - Yahoo! News (broken link)

This move may not bring gas back to $1.99 a gallon, but think of all the traffic fines and insurance surcharge money there is to be made from John Q Public.

What are we going to do with all the cars like BMW, Audi and Mercedes that just cruise all day long safely at 70-80 mph.

I didn't know that it was that old man Warner said this.Time to go home John and watch alittle TV. We don't need Liz Taylor ex husband telling us what we should do.

Senator John Warner (R-VA) - elected in 1978 - recently expressed interest in the idea of a national speed limit to conserve gasoline. Warner, who is not running for re-election this year, wrote to U.S. Secretary of Energy Sam Bodman, asking "at what speed is the typical vehicle traveling on America's highways today most fuel efficient?"

I'd wager this guy lets his chauffeur sit in his over-sized limo/Suv, with it idling, while he's in meetings. Gotta lotta balls, doncha' think?

I'll have to get a more modern radar detector. Mine's a Passport from the mid '80s.

I have already slowed down on my own, so it won't impact me. 55 on the interstate is a little slow, 65 would be okay.

I never drive above 55 so it doesnt bother me. Not like anyone would follow it anyways. People here still do 80+ in 55 zones.

Sorry mate! My article in the link was dated today and I didn't see another post from yesterday or today about this topic, so I put it up on the board. Didn't mean to cause a repeat.

Too late! I've already got my baseball bat out and I'm swingin' it!

The other day my wife and I had to go downtown (shudder) and I did the limit all the way (60 then 55). Boy did I **** off a bunch of people!
