The rear window in my convertible broke when i put my top down. it is glass and it is smashed. i am seeing on some websites that i will need to replace the whole roof. is this true? anyone with knowledge or experience, please let me know. thanks

I would check with both a top shop, and an auto glass shop, but from my past experience when I owned a convertable, you will need to replace the whole top...

Depending on the type of top, Stoymonkey (cool screen name), replacing the rear window does not necessarily require replacing the entire top.

Contact a quality top shop or your local dealer.

i did this am and luckily my car does not need a new top (newer models do, though). but it's still pretty pricey- about 800$ for the window. thanks for the help!

More important, you need to figure out why the window broke, or you could break the new one.

oh i did. rooftop is detached from the car, adhesive eroded or something. car is 7.5 yrs old. so unless i get it fixed, no more putting the top down.
