So I drive a 91 Maxima, It's a manual. Any ways last night I was driving down a highway doing 60 or so at about 2100 RPM's. I slow down to turn around and as soon as I slow down, my lights dim down, the battery and brake light illuminate. So I drive about 5 miles down the road like this, I get into a slower speed zone and I'm doing under 1500 Rpm's now. The lights turn off and everything goes back to normal. If I go back above lets say 2k rpm's then the brake and battery light illuminate. No belts were squeaking, the car had a new alternator and battery installed in late March. The car runs like a champ, pretty reliable, I've just never encountered this before?

Maybe the alternator or battery is taking a dump? They were both installed about 6 months ago.

Make sure the battery connections are clean and tight, if so take it back to the shop that did the work, sounds like battery or alternator, they can cause newer vehicles to do weird crap if one or the other goes bad.

Dave, My brother and I did the alternator and battery. Both were brand new when installed the same day. The connections are clean and tight and the belt is tight as well. I took it for a 15 mile ride today and it's acting normal now. Idk if it was just a random thing or what? I'm going to keep a jump pack in my car for the next few days just to be safe.

Only way to tell for sure is to load test the battery and get the alternator tested by a competant shop, even new parts can go bad. I'd get them checked just to be sure, it could be that neither are the problem and you need to look elsewhere, maybe a short or a bad ground somewhere.

Post Alternator light comes on above 1500 rpms & battery guage red lines

I'm wondering if my 2000 Ford Ranger has a variation on this problem. For the last 2 day, every time I get above 1500 rpm, the alternator light comes on the the battery guage zings up to the high red line. When this happens, the fan on the defroster speeds up dramatically and the headlights brighten. A few times, the engine has reved even if my food is not on the gas pedal. The truck has required a fair amount of work lately - the front left wheel bearing disintegrated, two weeks later the transmission went with no warning, then, a week later, both headlights blew (literally the bulbs exploded) and now, a week later this. Help!!!

Sounds like your alternator is overcharging. If it is, the next likely problem will be your battery either cooking or exploding.
