The boxy Datsun 510 sedan, built during the 70's, was an economical & good handling little screamer that was sometimes called the "poor man's BMW". It was powered by a surprisingly zippy little 4-cylinder motor, which with the addition of 2 more cylinders, eventually powered the early 240Z.
Yeah, minus the wheels/rims/stance/intake ducts, that would be a total sleeper! Never seen a GN swap in a Volvo before, how bizarre/cool! Thanks for sharing!
Never seen one either. Ford 5.0 swaps were pretty common while Volvo was still made RWD cars. Gotta admit a 3.8T swap would be sweet.

Your welcome! I also have the one white wagon that was shown on the last pic. It's a going on project and will be receiving a LS1 motor with a T56 trans hopefully next year. I also sport a 1996 Volvo 850R which I consider a true sleeper......which I think is a true kiddie mobile wagon.
Ford Falcons were the low dollar farmer's Sunday church car, just like the Chevy II/Nova. They weren't even designed to go fast, it's just that you could do so with not much power because the cars only weighed under 3000 lbs. The name "Shelby" were only applied to Mustangs and they themselves weren't all that fast, but the AC Cobras were.
Muscle cars of the 60's were not corner carvers. Not much was in those days. You're comparing apples to oranges on a 30 year span. Try today, with todays technology Mustangs and Camaros and Corvettes now are more of a corner carver.
Neither were many of the other big HP V8 domestic cars "built for racing". But they sure wound up being used for that purpose......I seem to only recall a hand ful of cars from factory set up for racing, most others were just hot street engines, a few were actual detuned race engines. (Hemi)
Funny thing I've learned is that most that bash on muscle cars can't even afford one.
Honda Accord V-6 with the 6-speed manual.. what you get for the money feels like a Prelude, goes better than the Prelude ever did, but doesn't have a Prelude's insurance bill.
Edit: not really the best of all time though, lol! Probably the Volvo 850R as was already pointed out..
