Was it a debate? I thought it hinged on an uninformed statement that the NSX was just a reworked Accord.

I don't really see how country of origin plays into quality. If it's a crap product, it's a crap product. Doesn't matter if the guy turning the wrench speaks English or Spanish.

That being said, I have no love for the HHR and wouldn't buy one regardless of where it was made, so I guess my answer to the original question is 'no'.

It was a GM brand, but the cars were not GM made. The cars were usually small, gas misers made by Toyota and Suzuki (Prizm/Corolla- Metro/Swift-Cultus in Japan). They were the ones that gave no problems and did what they were supposed to do.

Sorry to be feeding into an old thread.

I can respect that. I drove a girlfriend's new 2008 Civic for a day, and was mind boggled as to the lack of power/acceleration for the money. Yes, the interior trim was slightly better, but the darn thing was just slower than a Geo it seemed. I guess "to each his own" is a way of life? For $14,000 I cannot find a better new car. (and no, Kia is not a real car LOL)

Same here, I wouldn't buy a HHR if it were made in my backyard. Just a personal thing, I just don't like them.

A base model civic (non Si) is definitely a slow car but I wouldn't find myself in a Civic, HHR or any current model Kia. I've always found myself in sports/luxury vehicles with some decent punch. I wouldn't mind a Hyundai Genesis sedan though with the 375HP V8.

Goodbye General Motors, aka Motors Liquidation Co. Isn't that an insane new name for GMC?

Goodbye Chevy, it was a great trip............

I'm not real crazy about the Mexico thing, but my wife and I love our HHR so far. My mom's has been great also. The really good thing is that I practically stole the car as well.

The Geo Prizm was produced by the GM/Toyota NUMMI partnership in Fremont, CA, not in Japan.

I had a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville with the 3.8 V6. At about 4 years old and 70,000 miles the problem was a defective (plastic) throttle body in the intake manifold that melted away. Plastic in the intake manifold? Yes. What did they replace it with, another plastic throttle body, of course. Cost to repair, out of my pocket, about $1100. They had to pull apart the intake manifold to fix it, and had to replace the head gasket too. If you google "defective GM intake manifold 3.8 V6" you will see countless results. I sold the car shortly afterwards, in 2002. GM kept using this same defective intake manifold assembly up through 2004.

The big hint that this is a common problem is when I took the car to the dealership to get this fixed. The service manager told me they had several mechanics who did these type of repair jobs almost every day.

I bought a Nissan Altima made in Tennessee in 2002, and 7 years and about 67000 miles later it runs great and has needed no repairs besides normal wear and tear items.
