Ok, this is my dream car. Silver with dark tinted windows, black leather interior. The Corvette LS1 engine. Hubba hubba!! It's still going to be a few years before I can have one and I just have to pray that someone out there has one put up.
I've never driven one though. Does anyone have one or have driven one??
One guy here at work has one or had one, a red one. I think if you find a good, well-kept example, particularly with a 6-speed, you can drive it and pay only for gas, tires, and oil - if you take care of it and don't bin it, it will always be worth what you paid for it or more.
IIRC these cars are not at all bad on MPG if you keep your foot out of it - about like the C5 and C6 'vettes.
Take a look in Hemmings Motor News, you will likely find a few.
I'm not certain if these got that "Dex-cool" orange anti-freeze, if so you definitely need to keep "stupid-lube" types away from it, lest they add some sort of "multi-vehicle, good for what ails you" type of coolant - if provoked, this stuff jells IIRC.
I've never owned one (as much as I would love to) but I have driven two...one of them was a 2000 Trans AM, the other a 2002 Z28. Both were LS1 powered with 6 speeds.
Both were nice and peppy, although the Z was stock the T/A I think had some minor mods but didn't seem to be much faster than the V8 S-10 I had at the time.
Best advice I can give you is look it over hard with a fine tooth comb before exchanging money. A lot of these cars have been beaten on hard at the track or at the hands of a 17 year old kid. If it's a T top car make sure you look at the roof pillars because that's where they like to bend from the V8 torque.
Plus keep in mind it's a PITA to do some work on the LS1 Camaro. Changing plugs comes to mind. But yes they can get 20 + mpg if you aren't romping on it.
Quite frankly my dream LS1 car is an all black Trans AM or an all black Camaro, with a 6 speed. Then tint the windows 5% dark and add a few antennas....maybe people will think it's an unmarked cop car.
My cousin has a WS6 (manual) that Ive driven only once. Its not a bad ride, in fact its better than I thought it would be. Just make sure you have another car for the winters, if applicable.

Hey mrs1885, I have a 2002 WS6 TA. It's black outside and inside with leather and T-tops. Yep, an awesome car and the last of the TAs; that's why I bought it. I've gotten highway mileage at 24 mpg as long as you decide to not have fun, but this car was made for fun. With the exhaust note, it's hard to keep your foot out of it.
Definitely not a winter car, but I have several other cars for winter.
Well, I just bought my temp car to bridge me between the Eclipse I've been driving and the TA when the day comes. I hate it. LOL!! My husband is not at all a car guy. He thinks I should have a nice dependable Accord sedan. Gag. But that's ok. It's temporary. And every time I had to get in or out of traffic on the way to work today and realized that I'd lost the little bit of power that the Eclipse GT has I had to remind myself of that. Please, please, please someone take really good care of a black or silver one for me!!
HighPlains, yours sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. I'm soooo jealous! And I love the Ttops idea but hadn't thought of problems with it. Thanks!
