Are GPS units made to be weather resistant?
I bought a 2 year warranty for my unit in case something would happen to it but this winter has me concern.
I am amaze that it operates normal after being locked up so many times in my car after this summer but will that be the same case this winter?
My camera didnt survive the heat so are GPS design to be more weather tolerant?
Our Garmin unit is useless when it's been sitting in the car, even when it's only 85 out. What happens is it skews your touchscreen inputs. You try to push this button and that button gets pressed instead, and you can't use far left buttons at all. It usually has to cool down for a long time.
Haven't had any problems with cold, but then it rarely if ever freezes where we live.
The lower end GPs units, for some really strange reason, still use AA batteries! Under 300. most of the units of all the brands I've looked at indicate their temp. low threshold is -15.C! WHAT? AA batteries also die right about then, and for some reason all the models I've seen still use AA batteries. HUH?
Oh good. I'm out in the day, and it's -15. Then the sun goes over the Rockies and it plummets, just in time to die out as darkness sets in! WHO came up with this one?
OK, I know my ***** pocket is for warming up the unit and batteries, but WHY? Can we hack these babies and add a rechargable cell phone battery?
I'll report later on those "hunter gps avec radio" units from Garmin, but they 700.! WHEN I have that much loose coin I'll have to get one of those signal distress beacons and a good dog.
lol , thanks that answer my question on what I should do if it drops below 32. Bring it inside.

Mine is always in the car. In winter it goes below 32 and most times it is in 20s in winter. Summer it goes up to 100 and there are many many days when it is in 90s but I leave windows slightly open. Have had no problem so far - 5 years.

I have had no problem with mine even when it was down below 20, but I keep it in the console where it's somewhat insulated. On the other hand, heat causes trouble. We were on a trip where it was 104F, and left it on the dash mound while having lunch. When we got back on the road it kept changing languages on us. Couldn't understand a word it said, thankfully we could follow the maps.
