That's pretty pathetic...a local government in the good old USA buying a Japanese Subaru as part of their fleet. You don't rule...you pretty much should hide your head in the sand. Why not a Mustang GT or a Dodge Magnum SRT-8 ?
It was a GIFT from Subaru. Thats pretty sweet considering the Japanese have invested HEAVILY in America. More Japanese cars are made HERE these days it seems than American cars. Speaking of burying head in sand, you should do it driving your Ford that is made in Mexico or your Chevy thats made in Canada. I think its sweet that a Japanese car company would donate something like that to American law enforcement agencies.
And, uh, I dont think a Mustang GT would be great for a cop car considering its a COUPE. Good luck putting a criminal in the back seat of a 2 door. Not to mention the fact that its a gas hog and absolutely SUCKS in the snow. The STi is far more practical and NOTHING can outrun it in inclement weather.

B/C with high speed chases, the car not only needs to have the speed but it needs to handle like "It's on Rails"!!!! We have seen time and time again. How many high speed chases involved a straight path?!?!
How many high speed chases involve expensive sports cars? Its always full size pickups, s-10s, rangers, preludes, civics, old RWD American cars and of course...taurus's. And most of the chase videos I have seen the people wipe out on expressways. The 9C1 ruled the road as far as law enforcement until they were discontinued, P71's just don't cut it.

How many Chevy cop cars slide eratically in less than perfect road conditions? We all have seen the videos. I'm not bashing. They're very competant cars. They're engines are built solid with a lot of grunt. But a Subie will out handle a Chevy everytime. That's what the WRX was built for... rally. Where speed and handling co-exists! I have never seen a Chevy win a rally race. But the Subie, well...that's their forte.

While P71's and 9C1's don't handle as well as the WRX they are built like tanks, can't say the same about the WRX. Cops are used to beating the hell out of their cars, now they are expected to drive like they are in a soda can. Again... where is all this handling capability needed? I think you people have seen to many chase scenes in movies. Cops aren't whipping around city streets... it is far to dangerous to get the perp driving that crazy. If your going to have exotic cop cars you may as well make it a Z06 or whatever this Carbon car is.

Not only that, there is no need for a police car to be a top-notch handler. All they need to do is just radio ahead and set up road blocks. A lot easier and a lot safer.
I'm sure the police would rather be in a roomy and comfortable (and tough and reliable) car than one that handles very well.

I had to do a double take. There's not a thing wrong with the statement!! It's just that ... well... at first glance... it's so cute. Of course, you probably mean the current manly slang interpretation for "sweeeeet" whereas I'm thinking "darling." "I think it's darling that a Japanese car..."

Cops attend DRIVING SCHOOL to learn how to corner and high-performance drive. Dont kid yourself that they dont need handling capability. Its just a shame that they have to learn in behemoths that are far behind the times when it comes to handling. Have one cop in a Crown Vic and one in a Subaru STi cop car, and have them chase a Mustang down. Gee, I wonder what cop would get the collar?

Probably the cop who was alerted by radio and set up a roadblock!
Put one cop in a Crown Vic and one in a Subaru STi and see who is less stressed-out after an 8-12 hour shift.
