Interesting limo, never would have thought of using a heavy-duty truck platform to make a presidential Cadillac but I guess it DOES make sense. The weight of all the armor would be quite a bit for the basic Cadillac platform to handle not to mention the possiblity of putting a diesel engine in there would also help with achieving the power to move such a heavy vehicle. Still I think it's a bit frivalous to retire the current Presidential limo which is only a few years old and I'm sure is quite heavily armored to begin with...
Bush had a different one for each term, if I'm not mistaken. I remember his first being a DeVille and the current one on the DTS, so I suppose tradition mandates a new term = a new limo?
As for the change to a truck base, I wonder if it was more to do with requirements from the government or GM's preference to work with the truck platform, since the natural thing in most people's minds would have been to make it a DTS. Either way, the president certainly can't rag on SUV drivers now!
