On a personal level, I pre-date, Head rest seats, seat belts, padded dashboards, and F.M radios.
My father never owned a car with air conditioning until the 1970's. Prior to this, all he had was 440 air conditioning, four windows down at 40 miles per hour.
Our 1967 Volkswagen had ALL the options, it had both the AM radio and the dashboard gas gauge.
As far back as the 30's cars only had ONE tail lite/stop lite combined in the same housing. Thats what my 1931 Model A ford had. Of course it was a cpe and easy to look out the rear window before changing lanes. Loved driving it to school and had the rumble seat used a lot.
I'm confused. Having built several model A streetrods I've found them junked with two tail lights (one on each rear fender).
Hmmmmm..strange...seem to recall my cpe only having one tail lite on the left side. Then of course its been over 60 yrs ago. What time does the TV come on or the honeymoon start?. Do we have to be married first?. Steve
I'm thinking the single outside mirror was a cost thing, although the idea that you don't need a passenger's side outside mirror if you only drive on 2-lane roads makes sense - the outside mirror is just there to make sure nobody is in your blind spot passing you when you pull out to pass.
I do remember the CRX Hondas having 2 outside mirrors on the Si and standard, but the fuel-economy oriented Hf model had only the driver's side, and promotional literature said it was to reduce drag (and or course weight).
BTW Washington State requires 2 mirrors on motorcycles, this is fairly rare among the states (or maybe it became popular in the 1990's) since in the other states where I have lived, one was considered sufficient. Of course most newer bikes come with 2 mirrors (which are more like the outside mirrors on a car than the inside center mirror)
Model A Fords were I believe built in the late 20's to early 30's. If I recall they had two tail lights. The earlier Model T, like my '24 Dodge Brothers coupe, had only one tail light. In fact, to read the gas gauge in my Dodge, one has to stop the car and walk around back as the gauge sits in the top of the tank. Wouldn't be a smart thing to do on an 8-lane freeway.

You are correct. There were 4 years of Model A's. The 28-29's and 30-31's.
I'm not as familiar with the Model T's in their original state. But I've seen my fair share of model A's.
Just got thru looking up on a 1931 Model A Ford 5 window Cpe for sale. The pictures show only (ONE) left tail lite on the drivers side. Guess my old memory is not fading after all. Thats what I recall my old 31 Cpe had. Steve
Up in till the last ten to twenty years side mirrors were installed by the dealer ship. I bought a 82 Nissan that the mirror (left side only) was still in the glove box.
I have seen many old classics that had the single tail light. Many were updated to two by owners.
What trunk lid? Some cars came with a trunk that one took in to pack, looked like a steamer trunk. Moms 1928 Pontiac had the tail light on the left rear fender.
