Well they did a compression test and the results were that I had a hole in the radiator. I remember years ago removing a radiator and replacing it years ago and how easy it was. After they told me how much it costs It had me slightly motivated to do some of these jobs myself lol.

If the hole is small.... drop a raw egg in there!! That will stop the leak.

The car is 12 years old, it probably needs a new radiator, and the price quoted isn't bad for a new radiator with installation. The radiator alone wil cost 3-4 hundred dollars, depending on what it is...

Or pepper, but if his radiator is that old other leaks are likely to develop, plus you don't want to take a chance of plugging the heating core.

Pepper and eggs are temporary fixes.

You could be right but just out of curiosity I want to call 4 or 5 shops including the dealer. That will give me peace of mind when handing over some of my hard earned cash lol.

Price out your radiator on AutoZone.com - Get in the Zone!

Most likely with be $180 for a Cherokee to $300 for Grand Cherokee V8.

Don't forget auto shops will get them for less.

John thanks for posting this. Actually its less than 180 for a six cylindar Grand Cherokee. I definately need to call a few other shops for a better deal

You didn't clarify what model you have. Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee? Engine size? 4.0?

If you have a Cherokee with a 4.0, your radiator lists out at around $180-$200.

If you have a Grand Cherokee with a 4.0, it lists for $210-$225.

Now this is a general list price and depending on brand, you might be paying more. A thermostat will be around $10. Those are pretty cheap for Jeeps.

You will be paying list for your part. I don't know where you live, but most part stores should stock that radiator. It's a pretty common problem with Jeeps along with their water pumps. I'm suspicious. $550 is too much. With Grand Cherokees you have to worry about transmissin cooler lines too. They sometimes break/leak when handling them after so many years.

Get another estimate or two.

Not at my local parts store. List isn't even that much.

Its 172.99 at my zip neck of the woods. My game plan is to buy this at auto zone then calling shops and ask how much to install this sumbitch. And just go with the best bid, or with a shop that has a good reputation.
