What is “trashy” is those who park their vehicles on their lawns vs the garage or driveway.
Yes, I saw that at a few houses when I lived in a small town in western NY. One guy right on Main St pulled up to the front porch at the center of his house and the front yard had tire ruts in it.
The other thing you see some people do is they're "working on" old cars, boats, sometimes even appliances that sit out in the yard for an indefinite period of time and it looks like a junkyard - that can really be bad.

I see that a lot here unfortunately. It's mostly the older and lower class neighborhoods that still have dirt/gravel driveways.
I own rental properties and I'm pretty picky about it. If I catch a vehicle parked on the front lawn I immediately tell them to move it, I even put it in my rental agreements. I have even lined driveways with railroad cross-ties to make a barrier.
I can honestly say I have never thought about cars being parked in a driveway being trashy. In my case that's saying a lot because I absolutely hate when resident cars are parked in the street routinely. Overflow parking for parties, occasional guests, deliveries: All these are fine in the street. But the people who have a two car garage, space in their driveway for 3-4 cars and only park in the street, every day, now that's trashy and inconsiderate unless they park in front of their own home only, which is much more considerate.
It would look neater if everyone had their cars in the garage, that's true. But, IMHO, the difference between not having cars parked up the side of the street is the biggest difference.
