You do know that a large stake of Saab is owned by GM and Ford owns Volvo. There is so much overlap in ownership in many "foreign" and domestic companies. Remember Daimler Benz, until recently, owned Chrysler.

The Georgetown Ky police department had/has used Toyota Camry's before. Don't know if they still do......ofcourse they make the Camry in that town. Also, the Pantera mentioned in the earlier posts were Italian made cars by DeTomaso that had small block Ford engines and were sold here in the 70's through Lincoln-Mercury dealers.

Some areas that have regular snow in winter seem to prefer Saabs, Volvos, Subaru, or the current Chevy Impala. All are either front wheel drive or all wheel drive which can be an advantage in snow and ice. What they choose depends on budget and preferences. In my area the majority of police cars or Crown Vics followed by Impala and then Charger. They like the crown vics for the size and cheap to maintain. Crown Vics aren't sold for public sale anymore by Ford, only fleet sales.

You have to be careful around here....the Police sieze a lot of drug dealers' cars and they keep some of them to play with undercover.

So watch it, that Lamboghini Diablo that pulls up next to you at a light just might be the po-po!

I saw the new Subaru Legacy on the road. It really looks nice. To me, it strikes the right balance between conservative and stylish, just the right balance for a family sedan. It's also larger inside. Has anyone heard if they're making a police car version? Such an all wheel drive sedan would be great for police in snowy parts of the country.

The texas troopers tried Mustang GT's for a wahile but they had too many crashes showing worse injury and talking to the troopers I know they said they were to cramped by the time all the radio and emergency equipment stuff was installed. Then they had to call a ful size unit to transport any prisoner.Cities in my area order their units from fleet in county wide purchasing numbers. All patrol units are full size ;patrol supervisors SUVs and detctive units mid size. Then you have narcotic units which are lease vehicles changed frequently.
