My wife and I last car shopped at a Dealer about 15 years ago and it was a horrifying experience, where we were taken advantage of unmercifully by a rabid bunch of blood sucking, vampiristic vultures, led by a sadistic, big brother type of Floor Manager who ruled with an iron fist upon his minion(Car Salesmen)! When we barely escaped with our sanity still intact, we formed a pact that we would forevermore come better prepared to do battle against such an appalling force of evil! But it took us 15 years to build up the nerve to reenter the ring of battle to take on the minions of evil.
This weekend, after it became apparent our Toyota 4-runner of 15 years was about to succumb to a lifetime of wondrous misadventures, we entered the fray once again. What did we find upon our return to the sales pits of Hades...... What, nice, polite salespeople, bending over backwards to help us with information heretofore unavailable, hustling and bustling to satisfy our every whim! My God, how did hell become heaven in a 15 year timeframe.
Even after not being able to seal a deal and come to a contract resolution, my Wife and I were so impressed with the time, commitment, and devotion our car salesperson exhibited towards us that we actually felt bad when we could not seal a deal. We talked about doing something kind and nice for the salesperson in the next few days to make their life easier, for they, just as the rest of us struggle and have to survive like us all. Never dreamed it would come to this, but we like our salesperson and we are going to take care of them for their extreme hustle and hard work in attempting to get a deal done! Never would have dreamed of this 15 years ago!
After negotiations and getting a final price, I told the salesperson I would be right back after grabbing a drink and getting a certified check from the bank. She jokingly told me to bring her something so I brought back one of those mini bottles of Patron Margarita
Anyways, I feel like giving our salesperson a tip or a gift of some sort. Is that a common practice? Have you ever given you auto salesperson a tip or gift?
My car salesperson was a recently graduated young woman and while waiting for some paperwork to clear I told her I was going to the bar across the street for lunch, she joked to bring her something and I brought back a mini bottle of Tequila
