I don't know anything about AARP's roadside assistance, but in general I don't think AARP does a particularly good job in helping their members, and that's why I didn't remain an AARP member. I've been a member of AAA for decades (I have something of a high resistance to change), and I've been very pleased with them.
AAA also gives good hotel/travel assistance and discounts. We usually pay for our membership just with travel savings; thankfully haven't needed the roadside assist yet. I would recommend though the higher package to get more miles for a tow; well worth the few bucks over basic coverage
I have AAA as well... only had 1 problem with them but it was fixed right away.... One morning It was snowing and my tire popped at 5 am.... No trucks were around so i had to find another tow truck... I was pissed and made them reimburse me for the fee... they did it no questions asked
