Once in a while I will see a SUV car with Calif plates on the rear.

Problem is that the SUV has a rear window defroster on it...which makes it's first home back east or up north in snow country. Someone moved to Calif or the car was purchased and moved to Calif.

Calif as a norm is a warm climate and with what little snow we have in the mountains during the winter does not warrant a person ordering a new car with the defroster in the rear window.

I grew up in snow country and later to Calif. so know the difference.

Like a poster said..."never buy a originally eastern licensed car" if your in Calif. Steve

I would never buy a car without seeing it in person, I've known a few people who learned this the hard way.

Window defroster on the rear window in calif would be like driveing with snow tires...a complete waste...then again a person might go up to Mt Baldy for the snow...hmmmm... wonder if there was a extra charge for the defroster on the rear window? Guess I will never know. Might be like having air conditioning factory installed on a convertable in Michigan.

Different strokes for different folks. Steve

Generally the rear defroster is part of a package of other goodies they put in the car. Works pretty well getting the fogged up back window clear. Did I mention heated mirrors?

Yeah I see rear defrosters down here too, even though people rarely use them. I think it's thrown in on most new cars whether you want them or not.

Well I suppose the factory has to mark up the price of the new cars with add ons that many people never will use. Profit has to come from somewhere.

Bottom line is that the buyer is getting screwed with stuff they do not need in most cases.

Eventually things will break down....time to visit the HIGH price dealer.

With all the rust-free California cars around, why bother with this junk?
Unbelievably, us NY'ers do understand the concept of vehicle storage... it is crazy, but true nonetheless.

True, and I have known some guys who did store vehicles in the winter - but not many kids have the sense and the means to store their "rice rocket" for the winter....This car is rusty and funky enough IMHO to walk away from. OP being a college student IMHO needs to find something much less flashy. Been there, done that. Many college-aged fellows want to build a $50,000 custom on a $500/month budget.

First, degree, second, job, third garage and some experience, fourth, start to do serious car work.
