Mid 80s American cars had their issues, but I still see alot of these on the road around these parts.... do you? If it was 1985 again, and you were offered on of these brand new cars for free, which would you have chosen?

I remember when our neighbor bought a brand new '85 Cavalier and dads friend had a brand new '85 Tempo. I remember them picking me up in it from school one day. It was identical to the one in the photo below!

1985 Cavalier CL

Im not sure, but this Plymouth Horizon may have been more of a competitor to the Cavalier/Tempo than the Reliant was???

I actually liked the 1985 Reliant's cause they did get all of their model bugs fixed by then and they were actually decent little cars, the styling was alot better than the pre-1985 K cars too, I thought the pre-1985 styling was ugly, the 1985 Reliant gets my vote

Yeah, a lady I work with had TWO of these at the same time! One was a 1982 Reliant and one was a 1986 Reliant. The 1982 always had problems... especially with the carburator. The 1986 was fuel injected and a better car. She bought a 2003 Sentra and gave the Reliants to her son.

The Horizon by far, Reliant second. Cavaliers....no opinion on a '85. '86 models had alot of ac compressor problems. And Tempo......has to be one of the very worst vehicles I ever drove. Hated 'em, uncomfortable, loud, slow. I worked in the rental car industry at the time, drove a new one home over 15 miles, promptly drove it right back and picked up another car. Every time I drove one I hated 'em more and more.

Had a new '84 Cavalier-sold it at 200K, the guy that bought it put on another 100K+ before it died. Original engine and transmission.
Had a new '89 Reliant. POS to the nth degree, soured me on anything Chrysler for the rest of my life. AC compressor blew at 40K, radio quit at 50K, transmision ground to bits at 90K. It ate tires and leaked oil starting at 35K. Turned out that oil leak was a secret recall, warped heads.
