To those who have parted out a car how do you decide on how much to charge for your parts? I'am trying to part out a 1995 cirrus. Do most junkyards provide a price list that can be used as a guide?

Ebay is good if you can find a completed auction for some parts. It's just I've noticed many of the parts being sold on ebay seem to be new.

You can always call a wrecker and ask how much it would cost to purchase a part. Places like pick a part where you remove it yourself a fender would cost $40 or so. But a yard where they remove it it will cost much more like $140.
Body parts from the 90's and 2000's have a ready source of NOS and aftermarket replacements cheap.

Typical price for mechanical parts is about half of new, for things like transmissions etc. This is a very loose rule of thumb though.

I think if you offer the parts for about half what you see on E-Bay for new parts they will sell pretty quick.

Even less than half I would say. Maybe more like 25%-30% depending on age and use. For example transmissions for my car (a 95 as well) sell for $400 on ebay, new are around $3k-$4k. Engines about the same, maybe a little more, $600. A MAF sensor is $50 used, $160 new. The biggest problem with selling on ebay will be shipping the big/heavy stuff. For that I would probably try to sell on craigslist.

It depends on the part. Body and trim parts will be higher in comparison to new part prices. Something like a transmission is a complete gamble. Who wants to spend three days putting in a transmission only to find out that it does nto work properly? Some parts like control arms, tie rod ends, U-joins are pretty much worthless.

I did this once for a car club and then we had the shell sitting in my yard fo five months before someone figured out how to get rid of it.

I parted out a 96 Acura RL and charged 20% of the dealer list price for a new part. Sometimes it was 30%, other times 15%. I sold some via Craigslist and some via ebaymotors.com but I had most of the sales from owner forums on sites such as acuraworld.com
There are recyclers that buy catalytic convertors. Got $150 for the cat.
To check part prices, try partfinder.com where you request a part and get emails with pricing.

The list is on my page:
1996 Acura RL for Parts

I got $150 for the catalytic convertor from a recycler. The rest of the parts went to RL owners for their own cars. I am up $2k and have about half the parts left. Acura parts are expensive compared to Honda parts. The RL was not a popular car; not many in junkyards. The 96 was the first year for that generation RL, 1996 to 2004, so used parts are rare as well...

It was fun. I like working on cars and it was easy when you don't have to drive the car. I found a tech manual online and a couple of parts online stores so I could tell what part fit what year RL and the pricing. I have a few parts on ebay now...
