It seems like the car always breaks down when we are traveling. And of course the auto repair places notice that you are from out of town and will make the repair as expensive as possible because they know you can not say no.

On occasion I have been on long cross country trips and found that I was facing some very lengthy and expensive repairs to get the car on the road again and eventually home. One time I had to sit in a flea bag motel for three nights waiting for the repair. (The car broke down in a small town in West Virginia on a Saturday.)

How about you, have been trapped far from home due to a car repair? Tell us your stories!

Sorry, but my travels must be pretty boring. I've never had a break-down on a trip.

Not a breakdown but a blowout at 70mph somewhere in West Texas, whilst living in Houston- brilliantly controlled by yours truly.

Just had to change the wheel in the heat and humidity of a Texas summer where AAA membership was somewhat academic if something else went wrong, with the absence of cellphone coverage there.
