68 Vette,
I stumbled across your name on a History post. I bought a 68 Vette in 1969 from a friend of mine who bought it thinking it would be a chick magnet for him. It had the big 427 with the tri-power carbs and a four speed. Needless to say not knowing how to shift a manual tranny and having all that power didn't making quite the impression on young ladies that he was going for. I bought it with less than 2,000 miles and about two thousand less than he paid for it new. I had a lot of fun with it for the next three years and a lot of aggravation (think rear wheel bearings LOL).
A wise Man once said, "Every young man should own a Corvette and date a beautiful woman at least once. It makes you appreciate the ordinary things in life".
Not familiar with the car but sounds like maybe the tire outside is rubbing on the fender well lip or inside on the steering connections or front end parts. The tire will be shiny if rubbing.
Jack the car up to see the inside of the tires possible rubbing location.
Based upon the OP saying the problem is on turning into a driveway etc it could be the car leaning slightly and the consequent noise (whatever it is)
Many cars are not designed to except larger tires without some problem coming up.
I remember when I had my '98 Monte Carlo there was a grunting sound coming from the front right side when I would turn to the left (like going through parking lot). Turned out to be a worn rubber bushing between the strut and the strut tower which was causing metal to rub against metal. Just one more thing to check.
