Northbound is correct. the fact that certain gears will not engage indicates that certain gears in the transmission are damaged. the fact that the fluid is black indicates that the damage occurred due to heat. point is, the damage is done, and new fluid isnt going to fix anything. to the OP: your aunt is gonna need a transmission overhaul. a transmission flush will be a waste of time, money, and transmission fluid.
