come on now...that car will be at THE LEAST $9999 by the time it sells in America-if there is money to be made someone will try to make it (because the US market will bear a much higher price than $2300). There goes your $2000 car, haha
I agree that there's no way it will be $2300 when you add in the upgraded safety (well, minimums) equipment and emissions. What works in a developing economy with congested city roads, where most people are transitioning from bicycles and mopeds to vehicles and what works in a developed area with numerous interstates and high speed local roads is entirely different.
If they can sell the Smart cars without a problem they will easily sell these (just not at $2300). I see Smart cars everywhere in San Francisco, even on the highways. They just park them sideways and fit into ridiculously small spaces.

Yes, but the Smart has a large engineering budget and safety features that actually made the vehicle dependable and has a degree of safety with airbags, even its design, and it's not working to be the cheapest car on the road. The Tata is an aluminum can on wheels, at least in its current configuration. Now, a full plug-in hybrid Smart would be a great city car, though I still would not take one on the highway.
Looks like something the Flinstones would drive...aba,aba,dooo. If you needed extra speed, you just drop your feet to the ground and keep on truckin.
American made cars are looking like a thing from the past. China, India. Heck, why not? They are in involved in every aspect of our economy..might as well be cars to. At the rate of Americans purchasing power..$2200 might be all we can afford..in the near future.
I think no matter what they do to the car or price for the US, there will be a waiting list for the entire first year...In this down economy, the bad credit people and/or low income can now afford something...
I can't imagine it being able to climb a hill with a two cylinder engine, especially with multiple passengers. "Okay everyone, get out and help push"
I was also waiting for it to tip over in that video when he took that curve. It looks way too top heavy.
