I'm confused. I've had one of these for a couple of years, I bought it at an auction. It lights up and the guage works, but I'm not sure how it gets recharged. I would think that you would plug it in, but there isn't a chord for that, other than a lighter plug with an end that you would plug into something you are trying to run.

What am I missing here?

Product Review: Prestone Jump It! Portable Battery Jump Starter - Associated Content

According to this article the 110VAC power cord should be inside a trap door of sorts on the "back" of the unit.

If the cord is missing you might be able to find a replacement that will work at Radio Shack.

I don't know, it *might* be possible to recharge it by plugging it into your cig. lighter while you are driving.

Hey, thanks. I called a local auto parts place and they told me that too. However, the only place on the unit that looks like something could be plugged in is in that cubby hole in the back. But those are two narrow slots. I'm wondering if it is a proprietary thing. I'm calling them tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Yeah, take a look at one in a store, you should be able to tell if the cord is missing.

Damn I hate people who lose parts to stuff like this.

Get a bag and put all the "trash" in it, then you will have "all your trash in one bag" as my old DI used to say.

Heh. I finally found something online and it looks like the same thing that can run power through a converter must be able to take a charge. It is a ligher outlet, so I'll see if there is something like that out there, but I can't remember seeing one. Thanks again.

I have seen some of these that jump the car by plugging into the cigar lighter. The idea here is that after it is running - you leave it plugged in to charge. They say 15 - 20 minutes is enough to charge it.
A cigar lighter is on a thick wire with a heavy amp load, suitable for jumping.

I had one with the jumper cables and it had a small trap door in the back with the charger, the socket for the charger was under the same trap door.

Both systems rely on a motorcycle battery. However I recenty seen one that was not acid based.

I see. I do have that chord, but I was expecting something else. I didn't realize the spot that sends a charge out, would take a charge in. Thanks for your help.

It takes a charger similar to a cell phone charger.

In that case I am pretty sure you can get a replacement at Radio Shack.
