The real question is Amsoil really better than mobil 1. I use the extended performance 15-50 mobil 1 in my ford escort. It runs me $7.49 a quart. I would be willing to try Amsoil, but I am wondering if it is really better?

15-50? Man that seems pretty thick. Mobil 1 changed their formula and dumbed it down. Amsoil is a true synthetic oil. I know a guy who runs 25,000 mile oil changes and changes his filter every 12,500 miles and tops it off then. He's got around 250,000 miles on his cavalier. I'd say it's good.
Might not be worth using as it's not certified for use. Might void your auto warranty.
Not really sold at all, you have to be a amsway dealer to get it.

"AMSOIL" is a well respected company in the heavy duty engine use. It has the advantage of resiting high temps ,as with towing or aircraft engine, and has excellent shear properties that make it great to help engines under heavy load stress survive.
I used it in a Ford 3500 van that I towed my product trailer with and this oil kept on working when I spun 3 mains on a trip home! If I'd had regular oil that engine would have blown for sure.
So if you tow or othewise stress your engine Amsoil is the right oil. Otherwise save your money and change oil often.

I feel Amsoil is a superior product to Mobil1, but have used both.
I use 15w-40 HD Amsoil Diesel oil in most my Fleet, + gear oil and Autotranny fluid. (which is really good stuff for HD towing / heat applications; check the stats, don't trust me, but I have well over 1M miles on Amsoil products, and very happy with lubricity, and my engines and trannies like it, but don't 'drink' it, as has happened on occasion with Mobil 1.) My first 'used purchase' Amsoil vehicle was a D100 Dodge truck that had packed around a 10,000# RV for 120,000 miles. The owner thought he needed a 'powerstroke', so I ran his Dodge VERY HARD to 320,000 till it needed a valve job; engine and auto tranny were still happy. The owner always regretted his move to a powerstroke (He should have used a Dodge w/ cummins, I have 3 of those, and they TOW... 28,800# last trip across the scales in my '93)
I keep an Amsoil 'commercial acct', and have a distribution center within an hour, so top off my supply every year or so. I change filters every 5-10k and oil every 20k. Do oil analysis when I feel needed.
We use Amsoil in our regular cars and our dirt bikes and are very pleased with it. We change filters twice a year (more often if we drove in poor conditions) and change the oil once a year. We order online and since my so signed up as a lifetime dealer years ago we get wholesale pricing.
