Name some of the cars/trucks/SUVS that you think are overpriced and have an overly high price tag as used cars...

ONE off hand that I can think of are the 1989-1995 Toyota 4wd trucks, 1995-2002 Toyota Tacoma 4wd and the 1995-1998 Toyota T100s. They are great trucks, but I think WAY overpriced. They are not infallible. The T100s have a history of blowing headgaskets (on the early 3.0L), the 1995-2000 Tacomas have been recalled for potential frame rust/potential future frame rust and the 1989-95 3.0L V6 trucks have a horrid history of blowing headgaskets, yet people still pay a HUGE price for them... even well over book value. About all of the ones I see here are priced over KBB PPV and some as high as NADA retail!

On side note, the 95-00 Tacomas have frames that supposedly didnt have enough frame rust protection and the frames were rusting, especially on northern models. Here in the south it was not much of a problem - some surface rust at the worst, but I know our local Toyota dealer had some with only surface rust and some with heavier rust that were originally from up north. Some of the local ones had very light spot or two of surface rust, but the owners still traded them in to get the good trade-in value that the dealers were offering. Unfortunately, its my understanding that Toyota were crushing these trucks, which is why you dont see many of these anymore. Ebay used to be flooded with them, but now, they are almost non-existant.

They hold there value very well. I think Toyota has gone to great lengths on the rust trucks to get them off the road by offering full retail plus I believe it was like 50% towards another truck. As for the blown headgaskets. Toyota took care of those too. I had mine done in 1996 and never had a problem with it again. People like them because if taken care of, they will last forever. My 4Runner is 17 years old and I could still get over $4k for it. Now thats resale value.

They should have just shipped all of those Tacoma's to over here in Las Vegas. Cars never rust out here.

Nothing against the truck, as I love my 2003 model, but I notice that 99-03 F150s are really overpriced online here in Houston.

Loan value on my truck is about $5000 (03 XL Supercab w/143,000 miles), last I checked. I see a ton of these with similar mileage (especially those base model reg cab/long bed XLs) going for at least what my truck is worth plus about $2000. Ouch.

I saw a used Accord with 320K miles for 3800 bucks. That's a bit high, but it's one of several late models that hold value.

The Toyota trucks you're posting about are one of few later models that seem to have a high price floor-- at best, it's around 5-6K, even with 200K+ miles and in rough condition. While painful for a used small truck shopper, it's something to consider if buying a new truck.

Other trucks (small and large) have a floor between 3500-4500 like the Ranger, the smaller Nissans, the GM 1500s and Ford F150s.

They aren't overpriced if people are willing to pay for them.

Auto companies don't set the price for used vehicles; BUYERS do.

In my opinion, any vehicle with high mileage is overpriced. I drive a diesel pickup. I see these things with 200-300,000 miles on them selling for $10,000 or more. Sorry. The engine might be good for another 100,000, but everything else is falling apart.

Dodge Caravan- Ever look at the tag one of these kiddy haulers? Around $24-28,000. new!!!! Then you look at it 2 years later and it's worth MAYBE $12,000 or so

Pretty much all Chryslers are overpriced new. The fit & finish are horrible too. Sooooo not worth it.
