Replacing tires on a 2006 Honda CR-V. The Michelin Harmony and the Kuhmo KR21 were recommended. Michelin will run me about $115 per tire and the Kuhmo about $88. Some nice savings at the end of the day if in fact the Kuhmo is a solid product.
Go for the michelins. I used to buy tires on price. I won't anymore. Road noise, ride and tire wear are things you won't see until you've put some miles on them. Then the extra money will seem like a bargain. Michelins, if you get the right one's, will give you a better ride and last longer. Those cheap tires can be annoyingly noisy as well.
I know nothing about tires but Kumho and Michelin were recommended by the tire store. I know Michelin is pretty popular but the guy at the store suggested Kumho as a good product at a lower price.
Anyone know anything about the Kumho product line?
yes, i have used kumho tires, and i like them. they wear well and give decent traction and a decent ride. a good all around tire in my opinion.
Michelin is the only tire for me...yep might cost a little more but worth it in the end. I have owned many Michelin's and other brands. I expect to get 100,000 miles out of all my LTX M/S-2, that is if I rotate every 8-10 thousand miles and keep proper air pressure in them. My wifes GP has the funny lookin rain tire Michelin makes, they now have like 40,000 miles on them and I can see getting 100,000 miles on them also.
Exceptional ride, smooth, no vibration, no low speed wabble, great traction on snow, ice and rain, for the life of the tire. No one makes as good a tire as Michelin. I would probably stay away from wal-mart (michelin's) tires they are made to wal-mart specs and they are not the tire you buy at other places...that's why they are cheeper.
My dealer will rotate for free every 8,000 miles no questions ask...matter of fact they encourage it.
Michelin has a 70.00 dollar rebate that started 10/14...I bought a set of 4 yeaterday for the sub.

Reason: Screwed up
If you want a good tire for a better price aka VALUE then go with the Kumho's.
If you want the best tire, go with Michelins. Some Kumho's compare very favorably to some Michelins but top of the line Michelin tires smoke any Kumho tire.
There is a reason Michelin tires are standard on many high performance and luxury cars like Porsche, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW and why Kumho are not.
I used to cheap out on tires and I never had a bad experience with Kumho's. Decent treadlife, decent handling, looked good. However the tire is sadly a VERY OVERLOOKED part of the car. Those 4 tires are the only thing keeping you on the road. Great tires can help handling, lower noise and help braking.
While expensive, Michelin is well worth the money TO ME. (PS2 owner on two vehicles and MIchelin's on a SUV).
Italian Ferrari458 and 599 GTO use PS2s
German Porsche GT 2/3 RS use PS2s
Japanese Lexus IS F uses PS2s
Just pointing that out.
All of the Beemers too.
