Exactly! Back in Oct 06 when the market was much stronger my Toyota dealer offered me $3000 off sticker right off the bat to take an 06 4Runner but they only had two or three to choose from.

I ended up with an 07.

Luckily for us, the need to buy a new car (yes, we plan on driving it into the ground, so new is fine with us) has lessen for the time being. The wife's company's relocation plan has been delayed, so mass transit will continue to work fine. This is especially good since there are close to no 2009 Honda Civic LX left around here and the darn C.A.R.S. program has started to drive the prices up due to the increased demand. In any case, we may not need an additional car for hopefully 6-12 more months so here's selfishly hoping the auto sales industry recesses again in 2010.

Thanks again everyone for your insights and suggestions (which I will surely use when the time comes once again when we need to car shop).
