Autoblog adds, "White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says the average fuel economy increase so far is 9.4 mpg; a 61% increase." Based on the first 80,000 sales, "83% of the vehicles traded in have been trucks, while 60% of the vehicles purchased under the program have been cars."
LOL that's funny my neighbor just traded his 98 Ford Explorer in for a 09 F-150 not two weeks ago and at the end of our street is a 93 Explorer eddie bauer for sale. I guess everyone is ditching their suv's but for truck lovers like me it spells out great deals on large suv's and trucks.
I think I know why the Explorers were 6 of ten. They still ran.
Those old dodge caravans died years ago.
To qualify for the cash for clunkers they have to be registered and running. You can't stop those Explorers except with a gas pump.
That's because there are tons of old Explorers on the road.
No kidding.
It really proves the Ford Explorer is quintessentially the number-one selling SUV, from the beginning to the end! Despite the $4/gal gas prices last summer and the tire fiasco nearly ten years ago, Explorers still dominate the road.

I have seen very few Explorers on the road in the past 10 years (at least in my area NYC). Mostly Japanese SUVs today. The Explorer Firestone marriage was a death marriage for both.
