Grandpa got along fine without one, dad got along fine without one, and I am getting along fine without one. There are lots of us who don't "go with the flow". I'd spend the money on something else that you really need instead...

I am a map fan and also a GPS fan.

Maps are great for the big picture.

But if you want to find a specific address, service or address, GPS is the way to go.

If I need something other than my road atlas, I can always use the GPS on my Verizon cell. I agree with the one poster. GPS is a 100% waste of money.

What I have noticed is that you start to lose your sense of where you are and how to get un-lost. I've always been pretty good with directions and can usually get myself back to a main road or town when lost. With the GPS, I lose all sense of where I am in relation to anything else. We like to say you will never know where you are, but you will never get lost.
Rubytue, I think you're on to something when you say "I lose all sense of where I am in relation to anything else" I feel fortunate that I learned to sharpen my sense of direction driving a truck. I'll probably never get any more high-tecch than Mapquest... I truly believe that GPS may indeed take away our sense of direction...sigh.

What did the world do before GPS? Did people just drive in circles, never finding anything that they were looking for?

If you want a gps, get one. If you don't want one, don't get one, but please don't belittle people who are not afraid of technology.
