I do not know if this is true or not but I have read that a number of the American cars sold only in other countries would not be able to be sold here because they would not meet safety or emissions regulations in the United States. I have read that this is one reason that when they do bring a car "platform" from one that is sold overseas the car is complete different on the same chassis. As stated; I do not know if this is true but I do remember reading it somewhere.

European safety regulations are pretty stringent so the only thing I'd worry about is emissions. Even then it would be a fairly simple fix (in the grand scheme of things) but the manufacturer may not think they can sell the vehicle in enough volume to make it worth while. I think in general the American consumer is lazy and disinterested in getting something better. If people were clamoring for a European model Ford in huge numbers then Ford would be going to the drawing board in a hurry.

Current European emission standards are also quite stringent... not an issue.

I was fairly certain, but not 100% sure.

I forgot that the thread was basically for European cars. I think what I read was actually about the Australian cars made by the American companies. Sorry for the error. I still do not know if this is true or not for the cars made by American companies for Australia only though so I can still be mistaken. If anyone knows for sure, feel free to correct me once again.

Nothing to apologize for, in fact I need to apologize for excluding Australia since I forgot that American car companies operate their as well.

If I remember correctly, the new GTO and G8 were built on an Australian car platform. I thought I heard that the new Camaro is as well. I believe these were built on the Holden (Australian arm of GM) Zeta platform. I am no expert on this stuff so if anyone knows for sure feel free to let us know.
