Oh, now why does she say that? Just cause many of the Foresters you see on the road have a woman driver, have a rainbow decal somewhere on the vehicle, and an intertwined double female symbol glued to the back tailgate doesn't mean they're all lesbians. One lesbian at work doesn't drive a Forester at all. She drives a 90s model Chevy Camaro.

Keep their resale too good. I need something that depreciates so I can get a good deal on a used one and keep it for 8 years.
The wife wants something big to compensate for her short stature (4'11). Either Durango, Expedition or Tahoe I believe. Durango wins as far I as can tell with what I get for the money. Kinda limited when only having $17k on a used budget.
It's almost D-Day...lease is up in 3 weeks. Got a blank check from the bank so I can buy right now.
I'm 90% certain I've narrowed it down to a 2006+ Dodge Durango Limited HEMI 4x4. 2006 gets MDS, which shuts down 4 cycls when not in use. Kinda hard to find one with how picky I am but looks like with around 40k miles they can be had for around $17k.
My wife's Tahoe has that fuel management system that shuts down four cylinders when not needed. About the only time you'll actually see it do it is when your not touching the throttle AT ALL. Lets put it like this, Around town she was lucky to get 14mpg and on the highway with cruise on she could only squeak about 21mpg. This is in flat as a board Southern Illinois/Eastern Missouri with a 5.3l Vortec.
I've always heard that once you get around 120,000 miles with a hemi you better get ready to trade up because it's on it's last leg.
Also, maybe because it's Dodge country around here but you can get 2006+ Durangos for the low to mid teens easily.
So far on the test drive list:
1. Dodge Durango (2004+ 2nd gen)
2. Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon (2004+)
3. Lincoln Aviator (2004+)
4. Ford Expedition (for kicks)
5. Jeep Commander (2006+)
6. Jeep Grand Cherokee (2005+ WK)
She likes the GMC Envoy Denalis with the 5.3, so do I. Might check them out. The Durango and Jeeps are on the high priority list due to them having full time AWD, along with a 4hi/4low. I don't like how the GM's have the "auto 4wd" that will engage the front wheels AFTER it detects slipage. I want all 4 wheels turning all the time, especially after having it on my Magnum... just better control at all times.
That's about it. Just did a nation search for a 2004+ Tahoe with leather/sunroof under 60k miles, came up with 3. Don't want a base one. I'd love a Z71 but they are going for $18k with 90k miles.
as for 3. Lincoln Aviator (2004+) it's really is just a rebadged ford explorer which you could find a for alot cheaper I would try to find a nice yukon or tahoe with the 5.3 or 6.0 vortec the 4.8 seems kinda small for such a large truck IMO maybe find a nice yukon XL 3/4 ton that would be a tough truck that would than meet your needs and gives you a good reason to get a boat to tow behind it

No, you don't want 4 x 4 on all the time since that adds much wear to the entire drive train when it's not needed.
The system that GM uses is much better in that the system will react faster that wifey can push a button to engage 4x4 and drop off when not needed to save fuel and wear.
Don't be offended but I suggest that you do an in depth study of full time vs. on demand to find that on demand 4x4 is better all around which is what wifey needs. IMO you're about to make a choice based on what you want again and not what's best for wifey.
I'm now on a quest for a a 06 Jeep Commander Limited HEMI. With a 2" lift and some taller tires, these things look sweet. Haven't driven one yet, but will do this weekend.
I really like the QD-II system, it's one of the best 4wd systems on the market.
It's the differentials locking so it can transfer 100% of the power to the wheels that have traction.
