My VW pickup has 320k, still getting 46 mpg. It is just a baby compared to some of my VW diesel cars. My Dodge Cummins each have ~ 200k, and they are 1st Gen (pre-94) so expected to each go 1million+
for Gassers, I drove for a company that used Ford F350 w/300 CI 6 cyl. We did valves at 300k, and lower end at 500k.
My ultimate ride was a '63 Studebaker Truck w/ 4-53 Detroit Diesel, it had 3 million miles, and I used it on my 860 mile Newspaper and Movie film route through WY, SD, NE, CO (nice winter weather...) It consistently got 15 mpg hauling 10,000# and in 60 mph Headwinds!!. But then it was a Stude' - so it was 'aerodynamic'
I've gotten 600,000 out of a Cummins powered Dodge before selling it, over 450,000 miles from 2 Ford 7.3 powerstrokes. I also got 300,000 out of a 95 t-bird with the 4.6 mod motor. Got hit in the side by a guy on meds (illegal type!) who ran a redlight and into the side of me. Never seen it coming, but it totaled the car. Engine still only used a quart of oil between oil changes!
I had a 1978 Dodge 1 ton dually crew cab 440 that had over 313,00 miles on it when I sold it . I know a Horse Rancher that has an older Dodge that has over 900,000 on it , a Cummins . I just bought a new 2009 Dodge 3500 4x4 dually with a 6.7 litre cummins and I expect at least 500,000 plus out of it ( the engine ) .
My 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins is at just over 385,000 miles. Still gets 22 mpg with just me in it or towing a trailer with a full size tractor on it, city, highway, it just doesn't care. Still wants to go to Alaska when we get out on the highway.
Here in NY it's about how long before it gets eaten by Rust.
