East coast to west coast. Prius vs Jetta TDI. $130.00 for fuel. First to the finish line is the winner. I can guarantee it won't be the Toyota.
Give me a grease dumpster and ill win with just the money needed for tolls.

I wish my 2005 passat wagon got 52mpg. I doubt it will ever get to 40mpg. My Jetta would get 48mpg @ 80mph, but this 2.0 liter and automatic in the passat uses more fuel.
Learn how to do the TB change... it cost me $175 for the proper tools and about 5 hours for the first one, did the second one the next day, 3.5hours.
If you own one of these VW TDI's you HAVE to learn how to do your own maintence, or the stealers will rob you blind.

I agree. I do all the maintenance on all my other cars, but I haven't worked on my TDI.
My Jetta went to bone yard @97k because another driver wasn't paying attention and rear ended it. It had the TB changed @ 80k and an alternator pulley @ 70k. That and oil changes were all that were needed in 97k miles.
I have a 2005 Passat wagon now with 53k miles so the TB wont be needed for a few years.
I might get another 2003 or earlier Jetta with a 5spd like the one I had. I was really looking forward to driving it to 300k miles and beyond, but it didn't happen.
