The G6, Accord, and Altima all have (or had in the case of the G6) a two door coupe version. Was there any thing added to these models to make them a better performer (speed/handling) than the sedan version?

I know with the Accord at least, you could only get the 6 speed manual in the coupe.

Nothing is really added to them except the price. Honestly, if you're going to get a car with four seats you should just get a sedan and make it easier to use those seats.

So no one should buy a Mustang or Camaro? Or the old Celica?

I think coupes are a reasonable choice for people who don't need the rear seat often. They typically have much more style (great example is the G37 coupe vs. sedan), are often tuned differently, etc.

The Accord coupe is over 100 lbs lighter than the sedan. So with the same engine it should be quicker.

The 2 door Accord nowadays is pretty roomy and has more character than the G6. Not to mention pretty fast. Far as handling I know the Honda Civic Si uses a stiffer suspension and they handle really good compared to my Civic Sedan. You will pay more though.

We're not talking about those cars. If you really need four seats, the sedan version is a better choice - easier to use the rear seats when they are easier to use, plus more rear headroom. Yes, coupes are more stylish, but that's about it. If you want the style though, its not a bad option. The OP asked if there is anything added to these cars, and the answer is no.

With cars, 100 lbs is basically equal to 1 hp. It really doesn't mean much until you get to transitional forces in driving. I guess if you autocross your car, you'd want a coupe over a sedan for the slightly lighter weight and possible lower center of gravity.

I know we weren't talking about Mustangs. But they are technically 4 seaters and lots of people buy cars like that - many more bought than 2 seat sports cars.

Most coupes are about less, not more.

I think 100 lbs is worth more than 1 HP.

A somewhat well known equation is:

HP = Weight/(ET/5.825)**3

Weight in pounds
ET = quarter mile time in seconds
**3 = cubed

If the Accord V6 sedan is 3553 lbs it needs 208 HP to go 15 secs
The Coupe weighs 3401 lbs. It needs 199 HP to go 15 secs.

go look at the acura TSX it is about the same size as a G6 and is very easy to modify and parts are easy to find due to a huge aftermarket and it comes stock with a 280HP 3.5 liter V6 and a six speed.

The TSX really needed the V6. The high revving 4 was just too little. I bet it is a quick car. If only Honda would build a RWD car....
