I was in love once until my baby blue 2 door Oldsmobile couple died this year in January. It was no fault of her own- she ran like a champ, but I made the mistake by parking her next to an accident ridden vehicle that was later the cause of her demise. I'll admit she wasn't perfect-she had a small number of cosmetic issues, but I knew that when I bought her () and she rarely gave me any problems. I think you know you have something special when people ask you "what year is that- 83, 84, 85?? I used to have one just like it."- I respond with an emphatic "close, it's an 82'". I like older things; older women, older cars, and cheese that has molded longer- older things have character.
I woke up that late evening of January 31st to a yellowish/ orange glow illuminating through my bedroom window. I got up and peered through the window- it was my car and two others on fire. Someone set the accident ridden vehicle on fire and the fire tranplanted on to my vehicle. My first thought was to saveher because the fire had- so far caused little damage to my car, but I remembered I just filled the car with gas- there was no point in risking my life for a material object even if it was near and dear. I hated to see something I love die in flames without honor- you know an engine blown, or transmission blown would be a better way to go for a car- I could fix that...Helpless I stood there while the fire was ablaze and watched it totally engulf my car until the firefighters showed up and put out the fire. Unrecognizable she was I shedded a tear, but remembered all the fun we had the two years I had her.
Ill admit I was a little choked up when getting rid of some of my cars, but being "in love" with one? Nah. Theyre material objects, dont mean crap to me compared to my friends and family.
