I currently have an '02 Honda Accord with 95,000 miles.
There are two significant issues with the car.
1. The paint is oxidizing on the roof.
2. The transmission is slipping.
Otherwise, it's in pretty good shape.
I'm looking at purchasing another car and considering the issues the Accord has, I'm wondering what is the best way to get rid of it. Would a dealer give me anything for it with the problems? Should I sell it for parts?
Sell it as a "mechanic's special" to someone who can put a good used or rebuilt tranny in it. I'm assuming it's an automatic.
As a utility car the oxidized paint is a non-issue.
The stealer may shuck and jive about giving you some allowance as a trade in, but in reality they won't pay you more than a few hundred bucks for the car as is.
If all it needs is a transmission and otherwise would work for you, why not locate a good independent shop and have them put in a rebuilt or even ex-boneyard used transmission? I did that with the 87 Camry, so far so good.
Trade value seems to be around $3k to $4K for a rough condition example in running condition, which yours soon won't be with a slippy tranny. So knock off a high estimate of $2500 for a tran rebuild and you're somewhere around $500 to $1500 in value.
I'd Craiglist it for around $800 and settle for five/six hundred cash. Ebay takes too long and costs you fees, the dealer will find a way to add the trade cost back into your new car so you'll be giving it away more or less. Take some cash and put it down on your new ride.

Despite the tranny issue....I gotta believe a 7 year old Honda with less than 100k miles is going to go for much more than ~$550.
I'd put it on eBay, there is always somebody willing to do the work on these to flip and sell for a big profit. I've done that exact same thing many times, and I'd be psyched to get this car for $1500, spend ~$500 on a junkyard tranny, clean it up and sell it for $4000 no problem.

"Slippy" tranny. LOL, as soon as I saw that I knew you were from western PA.
Why would the tranny be slipping at 95K? Shouldn't a Honda go longer than that before needing a tranny?
As I just recently found out, the automatic transmissions in '98-'02 Accords were junk. Honda was sued in a class action and as a result, extended the warranty to 7 years/10,000 miles for the '98-'01 models.
It probably doesn't help that I drive my car a little hard but it's not like I'm doing neutral drops.
