The gas mileage on the Dodge is nothing to write home about either.
Any specific reason you are looking at these 2 particular cars?
Might help put things in perspective if you said what state you are in, how you plan to use the truck, how long you will keep it, driving style/preference, mechanical ability, etc.
Interestingly enough the EPA rating on the Sequoia (14/19) is better with the 5.7L engine than the Durango (13/17) with the 4.7L. That even includes the fact that EPA ratings were tightened up in 2008. The Durango benefited from the earlier, less accurate (too high) numbers.
The Durango is known to be thirsty as are most Chrysler products with that engine.
I would choose the Sequoia over the Durango in a heartbeat.
Buying a used car is a crap-shoot, most of the time they'll be fine except for routine repairs. However, you get one that's a POS and you're hosed. I think I've purchased 6 used cars in my life, only one was a total write off (donated to charity). That being said, buy the least expensive one. The miles on the Toyota shouldn't be a problem if it checks out at a mechanic.
For the gas, you'd have to drive the Dodge many years longer than the Toyota for the cost of the gas to even out the price.
I would look for something a little smaller though, if possible. Those are both freakin hogs.
Sorry...we it is the car my wife and two kids will ride. Just family car. We live near Reno, get snow. etc...
She stays home, but drives 23k miles per year.
Dude, seriously, if she drives 23K miles per year, unless you guys are a family of Sasquatch (ie all the size of NFL linebackers) how about a Subaru Outback - you are going to spend more on gas per month than my house payment at $3, and realize that it's been at $4 not too long ago, and could very easily go back up there...
Seriously, there are all sorts of other cars that are not so thirsty, that should be fine for what you want to do...

This is an excellent suggestion. The Subaru is better than both of the others and for the money you already plan to spend, you could get a very nice late model Outback.
I know about getting somthing smaller. I know. I know.I already brought that up but was vetoed.
We are getting one or the other. Outback is not an option.
Thanks again for all the responses.
