Depends on what you prefer. For better handling and feel in the twisties, the Cayman wins. For straight line speed and running the 1/4, the C6 wins.
For a daily driver, I'd personally choose the Cayman, but there's positives to both. (I'd actually go with a Boxster over a Cayman.)
Yes, definitely positives to both, and they appeal to different demographics it seems. A definite "image" emerges of a Cayman vs. a Corvette driver.
I would venture a strong suspicion that a prospective Cayman owner won't cross-shop a Corvette, and vice versa. Myself, I would be open to both, but probably choose the Corvette, since I'm age 64, 6'3", an have a bit of a bad back. I do think that the Cayman is the best looking current Porsche model.
A 1991-1994 Acura NSX can be bought for $30K or so. Some more, some less. Quicker than non-S Boxter models and about the same as most S models. Comparable to the Cayman and just a bit slower than a Cayman S.
Very reliable, comfortable, and not finicky at all.
I would say either a Corvette C6, Mazda Speed Miata, Honda S2000 or a Nissan 370Z... I would avoid the Porsche Boxster or Cayman since it will cost arm and leg to maintain and service since they tend to be very dealer Dependant and Replacement parts prices for them are very high.
For 30 grand I'd get a certified pre-owned BMW Z4 with an extended warranty program.
Or a Porsche.
Both those cars will do you well but cost more to maintain in the long run.
A new Mazda MX-5 goes like stink, especially the supercharged version, and it is a rev monster. Shifting at 8000 rpm is impressive!
Today you can also get a BR-Z, but it doesn't have as much horsepower as the aforementioned cars.
Personally, I'd go for a CPO Z4. Looks amazing, more aggressive than the Porsches, the convertible top is hard shell, inside is comfortable, and you have to admit, the badge is a factor.
If you're a true driver and don't have a lot of money to recurringly spend on the car, then a BRZ or an MX5.
