As long as it gets you from point A to point B and sometimes C that's all that matters. And it's paid for

That's a pretty nice looking 1972 El Camino....can't see why it would be a "worst" car unless it was ran into the ground by the time you got it....I think that's probably one of the last "best" years for an Elky.

You're in luck. It's just an old school 350. Built many years ago and would be considered obsolete by todays standards, but it still runs really well. Even with a 3 speed TH350 auto and a 2.73 rear cruising gear it can still move fairly well.

One day if and when I ever get rich, I want to drop in a 406 sbc with a Muncie 4 speed and a 3.31 or so gear. If not that, maybe a turbo 6 out of a Grand National.

Thanks guys. I call it the "worst" because there was literally always something wrong with it. No matter what I did it always leaked some sort of fluid from somewhere, had constant electrical gremlins, the worst brakes in history, no windshield wipers, rust, etc. I could literally go on all day listing the problems it had over the years. But when it was running, it was a lot of fun.

Current drivers are a 1996 subaru outback wagon with 4 new snow tires and 173 k miles. I can easily drive the speed limit on packed snow with this thing. The other is a 1992 Buick Roadmaster Wagon with snow tires and 187k miles. The Buick is slowly rusting away and I expect it to last another couple of winters. Both are amazing cars.

Well I will point this out, being 37 years old there's naturally bound to be some gremlins in it, especially if it's been neglected which not having wipers and so forth sounds like it has. Worst brakes sound like they were 4 wheel drum..yes definitely a far cry over disc. Leaks are also common on older cars if the seals dried out and haven't been replaced. Been there done that.

Yep, four wheel drums. I never worked on brakes much, but I had lots of work done on them and nothing ever helped. The engine/transmission leaks were weird because the car had a freshly rebuilt TH400 and I replaced all the engine gaskets twice in the years I owned it, yet it still leaked immediately after each rebuild. So that was probably something I did wrong. It's not a good idea to let me work on something that's not supposed to leak.
