Anyhow, there are some people saying people are gushing over Honda,Toyota, etc. There is reason for that, when American cars went through the worst era in their history, imports from that era are still on the road today. Just because American cars are making a comeback, we are suppose to forget about decades of GARBAGE?!

Ford puts out a solid product, tops in American Cars. Chevrolet has the Camaro,Silverado,Malibu. It also has the Cobalt,Aveo,Colorado . Chevy is about half way their. Chrysler is down and may never get up, they are putting out straight unimaginatve GARBAGE!

So, it seems people are defending Detroit when the proof is in the pudding. Consumer Reports has Toyota,Subaru,Honda,Nissan at the top. American cars on the bottom. I don't care where my car is made, when it starts giving me problems, the dealer isn't going to care about me. Have to look out for the best product, and currently that is Honda,Nissan,Subaru,Toyota.

Having owned Toyotas for the past 20 years, I would have laughed a couple of year ago at the thought of buying another American made vehicle.

Although still not totally convinced, the laughter has now subsided and the possibility of buying American has become a possibility. Ford has definitely become a strong contender, and has shown that they can now finally adapt to types of quality and efficiency that Americans want.

I had ruled out Gm categorically years ago, but again with new leadership, attitudes, and a solid new direction they are also in the mix.

Maybe it took a devastating shock and looming catasrophe to jolt the American automakers into first gear. Sometimes companies need shots to belly and abdomen to be awoken from their slumbers----hopefully both Ford and Gm will keep the rally going with good leadership and direction.

Every auto maker has some dark era in their history, Japan included

Toyota being the most recent, with their sticky gas pedals

All those Honda Accords and their transmission problems

the 2002-2006 Nissan Altima catalytic converter issue

There's also countless issues with American cars. We all remember the infamous Firestone tires on all those Ford Explorers back in the late 1990s

Just to play devil's advocate, Toyota's dark era lasted a few months, not decades. Isn't it fair to say American cars overall have been pretty rough since the early to mid 70's?

Default Absolutely not

I am deeply offended that american automakers would for decades continue to make such pathetic vehicles compared to the asian models. They had a choice. They could've put the superior quality IN their cars instead of putting profits in their executive's pockets. To hell with them.

I avoid the inferior american product and it will take decades of asian-caliber reliability before I believe that those vehicles are worth consideration. Ironic watching these commercials where these american cars are propped up as if Toyota's rare recalls suddenly make detroit cars worth buying. Ridiculous.

Lexus or Toyota-preferred.

Detroit is far from gone. They had a near death experience, but they are coming back strong and making Toyota and Honda take notice. Detroit may have lost a chunk of the baby boomers, but they are resonating with Gen Y due to social media marketing. Just look at Ford's brand awareness thanks to the Fiesta Movement.

I'm going to guess that within 5 years, Ford will be solidly #2 (GM will remain #1), and Hyundai and Honda will by vying for third place. Toyota will stablize around fifth.

Cars from China won't be here for another decade at least. There's already a stigma against Chinese products thanks to reports of contaminated food and childrens toys, and they don't even come close to the bare minimum for US crash standards.

If that is not one of the most ignorant racist statement I have even seen on this forum. You have shown your true self. Congratulations.
