The lady that bought my Lexus the other day emailed me and said the "TEC" stopped working and asked if I knew anything about it. I emailed her back asking what she was talking about, but wondering if anyone here knows. My mind is not fresh and open today.... too much going on.
That could be it! Thanks! It had been reading a little low when it was really cold outside. One morning a couple of weeks ago when it was unseasonably cold it was reading really low, but it started working again.. never thought much of it though. Apparently it has stopped working.
Well the car is nearly 20 years old and she got a really good deal on it and I am sure its nothing serious.
lol.. If you have your money the solution is to put her on your "block" list for emails. Or you could fess up and tell her you knew of the TAC problem but didnt want to scare her away from the sale so you didnt tell her and then man up and pay the 7 or 8 hundred it may cost to be fixed.
Well, I would like to help her out if I can. The tach was working fine the day she bought it. It had never stopped working with me and I owned the car for 3 years. It was just that one unseasonably cold (10°) morning it was acting funny, but it started working again.
I honestly dont think its a big deal, as many cars dont even have tachometers... especially older cars. She dont need to be even near redlining it anyway, because even at low throttle, this car pumps out plenty of power.
Could be as simple as cleaning the connection wire from the ground side of the coil to the tach itself.
