Here is the truth. My 1991 Ford Escort Pony with 88 horsepower is super reliable. However, you can see what I highlighted. It is definitely NOT fast. I owned a few modified turbo Ford Probes, and one 1988 Supra Turbo that I also modified. I quit driving cars like that after getting pulled over for going 145mph on a freeway in Phoenix, in which I got arrested and locked up, plus lost my license for a whole year. I really know this is not smart, but I can not take it anymore. I am no longer the first one out at the stoplight. Even new stock full size Chevy trucks are pulling away from me, and it is embarrassing since I used to waste them in my Probes and Supra. After all this talk on here about fast cars, it is really killing me since I know longer own one. I really have my heart set on the car below. It did have a buy it now price of $3,999 that is now removed. I am thinking about bidding up to $3,500. My plan is to keep my Escort as a back up, but buy this as my main car. I think it is gorgeous, and I have more than enough money to pay cash and maintain it. Should I buy it?

My advice b/c of your past history: Just keep on driving the 1991 Escort and forget any other car.
buy it man... you will regret it if you dont. if it makes since then do it. I wouldnt want to drive a 91 escort. there comes a time when you need to upgrade cars. I dont know if it is a upgrade. but a toyota with 126K is a good start. be careful.
The thing is the experience I posted was back in November of 2003, so it has been a long time, and I no longer drive like that. I try to stay within 15mph of the speed limit anymore, and it is not hard consider the pokey car I drive now. Even with the Supra I am looking at, I would most likely accelerate quickly up to speed, and then back off. I am more concerned on if this Supra will be a good car for me. Another thing to consider is I do live in Las Vegas, and my Escort does not have AC, in which the Supra does.

Take a deep breath and be thankful for what you have. Sounds to me like the LAST thing you need in your life is more legal or money grief. So what if you not a stop light champ. What you are is a guy with a better life now that you've got the racing bug (which can be damned expensive) out of your system.
Be glad that you had fast cars but it's time to man up, grow up and be an adult now. You'll get over it soon enough unless the mopes here convince you to do something stupid.
Ok, everyone, I will lay it all out so that I get a 100% honest opinion. This is going to sound bad, but if I am not truthful, I honestly will not get a truthful recommendation. I was drinking and driving when I went 145mph down the I-17 in Phoenix. When I say that, I mean literally in a sense that I had a thirst buster full of wine that I was drinking AS I was driving. I know that sounds really bad, but I did not get a dui as I blew .032 twice which was less than half the legal limit of .08. In other words I was clearly not drunk, but I smelled heavily of it obviously. However, I did get a reckless, among other charges that cost me my license for a year, job, etc. You would think I would have learned, but then in 2006 I wound up driving 100mph on a city street (Charleston) in Las Vegas in my last Ford Probe turbo, and I was drunk, and wound up with my last DUI. I finally learned after this, and I NEVER drink and drive. I plan for everything so that it never happens again. I will admit I used to be a piece of garbage since I could have hurt or killed someone with my past reckless actions. But now I will be turning 35 years old this year, and I am no longer like that. I have totally grown up as it happens with age. I still have a heavy foot (which I will not deny), but I promise I am at least always sober when I am behind the wheel. Basically, I am getting to old to be driving something so ugly, slow, and nasty like my Ford Escort, and I feel I am ready for an upgrade.
Just about any car can go super fast if you let it, some more so than others. So, it's responsibility of the driver, and as one matures, they learn not to do things that they might have done when the filter in the brain is clogged by the exuberance of youth. And, no, I'm not that old, myself, though, admittedly, my driving style on public roads is more in keeping with my parents than my peer group.
I'd say that a nicer car might not be a bad thing at all, since some power is not necessarily a bad thing, provided it's used properly. I remember when I was a small child and my mother had a high-performance Mercedes, over which some of my friends' fathers drooled continually. It was a very fast car from 0-30, or 0-55, but since she's driven like an octogenarian since she first got her license decades ago, so I am told; the speed limit was/continues to be the limit of her vehicle, despite the ability to easily sustain triple-digit speeds. So, it's not the car, but the operator, and level of maturity. And, I always find it hilarious when someone switches lanes behind her at a stoplight, thinking that the driver is going to rocket down the road, only to be passed by a Honda Civic in the next lane.
Long response, short, life's too short to deny yourself some pleasure. As long as you make a deal with yourself to responsibly handle a performance vehicle, I say go for it.
ETA: I just saw that you have no A/C in the Escort in Vegas! All I can say is -- WOW! You need to get a car with A/C, even if it's not this particular Supra. I've had cars in Vegas when the A/C was on max and they still did not cool down effectively for me, but then again, I like a very cold car. Though, it could be worse, you could live near Baker, though sometimes Vegas doesn't seem that much cooler.

Had you considered getting the 1991 Ford Escort GT engine, a Mazda 1.8L 127 HP engine? Combine the light weight of the car, the 19 HP bump up, and better than standard tires and you will get a better performing car. You might even be able to get a Mazda turbo for even more performance.
do not buy that car. i couldnt even get a bluebook value on it cuz its so old.
ur better off going to craigslist and finding cars there, at least here u can inspect them urself in person. just put your min and max price range (im assuming u dont wana pay more than 3500$)
I would not recommend that car like that.
Toyotas are very reliable, but when it comes to 87' TwinTurbo Supra, it is biig lottery. It may occur to be great car, but on the other hand, it may occur to be a big disaster for your budget. So you must inspect the car thoroughly, and then consider buying it.
