This upcoming model from Hyundai looks like a total winner. 40+ mpg, pricing more or less deciphered to be somewhere under $15k to start and under $20k loaded as not to jump into the Genesis Coupe's segment, super low weight and size, 4 seats, and probably a Mini Cooper-like 140hp base/ 175hp turbo 4 banger GDI engine. Looks like a tiny version of the Scirocco mated with a Genesis Coupe, and some inspiration from the current Eclipse:

I really like the 07-10 Honda Civic Si if you're looking for performance. Otherwise, the 09-10 Honda Fit and the pre- 2010 Mazda 3 both seem really nice and smart.
it almost looks like a modren honda CRX if honda had continued making them
Which is ironic, because Honda is about to drop a potential turd on us with their updated "Hybrid Sport" CR-Z....a $20k+ 2 seater 2,700lb bloated hybrid pushing 122hp and only returning 38mpg highway from CVT. Manual tranny shoots it down even further to somewhere around 35mpg I believe. I don't get the point of this thing when you have 40+mpg 4 bangers like the Hyundai project, Ford Fiesta and the new 2011 Focus redesign, Chevy's upcoming Aveo RS sport hatch and Cruze, etc that more or less will be more powerul, lighter, and just as efficient for a lot less.
Looks too much like a stubby Insight, and the nose is pretty ridiculous witht that huge overhang:

I agree with you 110%!! If this ugly thing got over 50 miles to the gallon, then I could see the point but as it stands, I just don't get it. Even if you compare it to Honda's own lineup such as the Fit or base Civic, it makes no sense why anyone would buy this ugly, expensive, 2 sitter with no mileage advantage.
There's no mileage advantage only if you imagine everyone does all of their driving on the highway. Hybrids derive most of their advantage in city driving and/or when there are frequent variations in speed.

City or highway, this thing has no real advantage compared to other 4 bangers such as the Fit. The best mileage this car could get is 40 MPG on the highway, it's even worse in the city (According to Edmund's, 36 city, 38 highway). For the price and considering it's a 2 seater, I don't know why anyone would buy it. Just my $0.02.

I think the front is tolerable, but the rear 3/4 is awful. I see some S2000 in the front, a little Eclipse in the lower rear area. Not the worst design, but not good either. Just my opinion.

the rear 3/4 reminds me of the blocky 80's CRX rear
