ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Hyundai Motor Co. of South Korea joined rivals with a deal to take advantage of Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Co.'s massive recall troubles.

Hyundai said it would provide $1,000 rebates for Toyota trade-ins if the customer opted for either a Hyundai Sonata, Elantra or Elantra Touring, The Detroit News reported Friday.

It's a great opportunity and an excellent business move. I'm not a Hyundai fan, but I think it was very wise of them to do so.

All manufacturers are doing it now. So lets see, you trade in your Toyota for probably way below market value and get only an additional $1k off certain cars. Sounds like a crappy deal to me.

Still a way for people to ditch their crappy Toyotas and buy something that won't potentially kill their families. The move still conveys a "we'll take care of you" sentiment. Toyota is doing squat for their screwed over customers.

I'm sure the folks that have been living with surging vehicles due to Toyota's negligence will gladly take up the offer.

Every maker jumped on giving Toyota a black eye for the mess they made.

Capitalism prevails!

Hyuandi's just getting real good, like the other asian makers were 20-30 years ago...

^ yeah i think the news about Hyundai is spreading in a credible way. this will help them a bit. but they won't be stealing big numbers from it

however, the next Sonata i believe is going to be a big success. they have already predicted big sales jumps for it, and people turned away from Camry by all this may find the car very, very attractive

Buick Regal is also nice. but alas...its an Opel :/
