I'm interested in buying a used Escalade. I found one that is a 2009 model that is selling for 64K by a dealership. It's loaded and has the color I like. It's got 7K miles. I still think that's a little expensive. In your opinion, do you think I will be able to get it for 5K less than that? I've been told dealers are not willing to negotiate beyond cars.com prices. I doubt that's the case. It doesn't hurt to ask but what's been your experience with buying used cars on cars.com from dealerships?
Cars.com is basically just a classified ads site for cars. You'd still be dealing face-to-face with the dealer just as you would any other conventional purchase from a dealer, and just as any other car sales ad, the advertised price is typically a "starting off point" for negotiation rather than a bottom-line price. You're probably thinking more along the lines of CarMax and its "no-haggle" pricing structure, or CarsDirect.com where you're you can accept the offered price without haggling and buy it directly online (though you also have the option to seek a standard brick-and-mortar referral).
